I was very happy to get my-self the jazzy new laptop last winter. I was pleased with carefully chosen configuration as per my requirements. I used it happily for a couple of months, and suddenly realized, I was not getting enough battery life! Jeez! What if working on an important presentation in the park or the subway I may need to plug in? To be honest, I have realized that this was partly a limitation of machine and more of man. Long lasting laptop battery, yes that is what I look for and so do most of consumers! However, we do not take care of the batteries enough, so that they could actually last long.

                                                 We have to have an understanding that choosing a long lasting laptop battery is upon us. We have to know what it is actually like for a battery to sweat for us and drain daily. Let's see what the earlier batteries used to be like. Nickel-metal hydride cell was the foremost technology of commercial batteries for laptops. They were good but far from what you would call a long lasting laptop battery! The biggest disadvantages were their limited capacity and life. They were large and too heavy! Due to decrease in size of Laptops, the manufacturers moved to better options. We now had Lithium ion batteries to feel lighter with. Latest is much more durable and powerful yet compact lithium polymer batteries. The evolution of batteries has given us more power and battery time of 2-5 hours! However, we have grown to be hardware and software hungry! We have to watch movies, play music, play games, click n edit pictures, chat with friends, all of this on the move. In short at times, we want to fly further than where our feathers can carry us. So we are still in search for a long lasting laptop battery!!! Well a wise user would always want to take help of the Software to optimize hardware usage.

In the case of battery, when you go to power options on your Windows, they offer Balanced or Power saver plans to suit your needs of usage. To make your laptop's battery a long lasting laptop battery, you have to choose whether you need a 6-cell battery or a 9-cell battery depending on your requirement. Its like if you have a large family you would not want a Micro car in form of 6-Cell for them. You would go for a 9 Cell Full sized SUV to hold them all for long rides. You may also prefer to hibernate the laptop, rather than placing it on sleep/standby modes. The least you can do is to choose a laptop that promises more juice in battery! But as they say battery backup is never enough.
